Belgium for sale on eBay

Belgium is in a political crisis currently, as the Dutch speaking Flamish and the French speaking Wallonians cannot get to agree on a government currently. They are talking for months already without a solution. As a result, the question of separation is alive again.

Some hoaxer then put the country up for sale on eBay…

That’s pretty cool, though most of the jokes go over my head.  Wallonia sounded the nicest.

Wallonia is the most problematic (apart from Brussels perhaps) and economically least viable part of Belgium. High unemployment etc., low education level. Landscape littered with abandoned ore mines.
Flanders has its own problems: like militant right wing nationalists.
The status of Brussels is about as controversial as that of Jerusalem.

We need to introduce some of them to our own Republic of Texas seperatist loonies.

I first read this subject line as “Belgian” for sale, and my reaction was, “What’s the big deal? Why shouldn’t somebody sell his Belgian (a breed of work horse) on eBay?”

I am kind of a goober.

I wanted to bid on Belgium, but then I waffled.

And just when you think you’ve seen all possible insanity, someone makes a bid on Belgium.
Not even our own politicians can manage Belgium. As it stands, a new government is as likely as a bear taking a dump in the pope’s hat. Although stranger this have happened in this country.  tongue laugh

Note: the ‘item’ just got taken off e-bay.

Frostbird, what is your take on Flanders re-joining the Netherlands? Some Dutch (not me) and Flemish really seem to entertain that notion.

Or maybe the Netherlands can be absorbed into Belgium!  grin

So MadCarlotta must be the alias for Hercule Poirot!

I once bought something from Belgium via e-bay.  I had these statues with plumbing in them to use as garden fountains, but I needed the little nozzles for them.  That’s what I bought.

You guessed it—they were Brussells spouts!

While both regions are mostly made up of complete nutters, those are however unovercomeable incompatible insanities. LOL

Personally I don’t think it would culturally turn out right, starting with the food. ‘Kroket uit de muur’ is something I don’t even want to see in hell. wink
It would be wiser to just make Flanders a region under government of the E.U.
