I like the word anathema. It would make a great name, until you realize the meaning LOL

Of course it would inevitably get shortened to Ann anyhow.

The majority of religions .............(blah, blah, blah)

As a Christian myself I can safely say this man obviously uses his Bible to get a “hard on”.

The Council of Laodicea about A.D. 364

The council showed respect for the Sabbath as well as Sunday, but Canon 29 stipulated: “CHRISTIANS must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord’s Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.”

Razela - 04 April 2007 10:58 PM

I thought the Christian Sabbath is on Sunday because when the religion first got started they wanted to make it different than Judaism so they moved the “day of rest” to sunday rather than saturday.

I would say that sounds just about right, Razela. wink

Plus I understand that wealthy Jewish families liked to hire Christian servants to do things that were forbidden for them to do on the Sabbath.

From what I hear, there’s still something like that for Orthodoxers today.  I had a friend who used to be the maintenance man at a Jewish retirement complex, and he’d frequently get calls to flip light switches.

Again, in the words of Michael “Meathead” Stivich, “I thank God I’m an atheist!”

Orthodox jews aren’t even allowed to ask someone to do work for them, we have to ‘suggest’ it. :D

Monty Python - All Things Dull and Ugly

All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.
Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom.
He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly little squid—
Who made the spikey urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!

All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.

Amen.

I’d forgotten that.  My friend who worked in the retirement community (see above) told me about that.  He’d get a call and go to the apartment where the tenant would say something like, “It’d be better if this light were off and this one on.”

Hmmm…he would “get a call”: but orthodox Jews are not allowed to use a telephone (as any electric apparatus) on sabbath either…
