We subscribe to Netflix, a great source for lots ofs DVD’s.

We just watched ‘Elizabeth’, the story of Queen Elizabeth I and her ascendance to the throne.

Great movie!  2 hours long, and never a dull moment.  Lots of Royal intrigue, everyone plotting against her (especially the Catholic Bishops) Mary Quenn of Scots assembling armies to invade England, and so on.

Possibly, some of this stuff was even close to factual!

Anyway, the movie was great.

Is that the movie starring Cate Blanchett?  Or some other version of Queen Elizabeth’s story called “Elizabeth” (there’s a few out there)?

I remember seeing that in a theater when it came out. Yeah, it was pretty good. Cate Blanchett was great as Queen Elizabeth.

They’re currently filming the sequel, “Elizabeth II”.

I heard that there was a lot of confusion in the US when “The Madness of King George III” was released.  Apparently a lot of people kept asking to see parts I and II first.  And so the company decided to drop the “III” part and just call it “The Madness of King George”.  I’m not sure how much truth there is to that story, though.

Not much (http://www.snopes.com/movies/films/george.htm).

Certainly the original play was call “The Madness of George III”, but it looks like the change was more to do with wanting to include the word ‘King’, to make its subject more recognizable internationally.

I heard this story when the film first came out and thought it a very funny joke. Mind you, I once watched the film “Slaughterhouse 5” (featuring the young, and naked, Valerie Perrine - *sigh*) with a friend, only to be told at the end “Well it was alright, I guess, but I wouldn’t watch the others!”.

Dan…you’ll have a lot of fun with Netflix…I certainly enjoyed it when we had it.  Just a tip for you, though…

If you’re interested in watching Television series through netflix…stagger your requests.  For example, you might do:
CSI Season 1, Disc1
CSI Season 1, Disc2
MOVIE
MOVIE
CSI Season 1, Disc3

etc…B/c if they don’t have a disc, they’ll send you one of your movies.  My husband is obsessed with Star Trek…and he had all the discs from a few different seasons of one of them one right after another.  When they didn’t have a disc available from the current season he was watching, they started on the next season, so as not to get him out of order in the current season.  Very confusing & very annoying…

Otherwise, we had a lot of fun with that…and I hope we can start it up again soon.
