Have you ever thought to yourself, “Gee, didn’t The Boys From Brazil really lack catchy disco numbers?” Well, you’re in luck, you hypothetical (and presumably insane) alternate history enthusiast!

The 1980s Pakistani action flick Hitlar presents a parallel universe in which der Führer escaped Germany after World War II only to settle down in South Asia. Once there, the deposed tyrant threw his racial dogma to the wind and sired a son (actor Mustafa Qureshi, with swishing Teutonic locks).

The son of Hitler — the eponymous Hitlar — spends his days terrorizing a small town, using his musical sting to petrify his enemies (hear it in the video below), and conversing with paintings of his dead Nazi father.

Ah, Bollywood.. More concentrated WTF than you can shake a stick at.

Imagine if Ed Wood were alive today… he would have a field day over there.

Incredible. Just, incredible. How do you go about coming up with an idea that bizarre, and more importantly how do you convince enough people to give backing to an idea that bizarre? This will presumably become a cult hit with those too hipster for ‘Iron Sky’.

This is actually pretty sane by Bollywood standards. They love them some crazy, especially mixed in with western culture tidbits that they recognize the name of but don’t know much about. As for money, it’s a combination of low budget produtions and backers with stupid rich amounts of money.

Eh, the whole region has some very, very odd concepts for movies. There’s one country.. think it’s one of the Turkish ones, that the same guy shows up in multiple movies. Not just the same actor, but the same character. Think ‘Earnest Joins Starfleet’ or the like. Very odd.

Bollywood is charactarized by some song and dance numbers, even in otherwise serious films. They also like to tell the whole story. No in media res here, you will get the character’s life story.. As mentioned, they also make liberal use of western pop culture. Quality is generally very poor compared to the average Hollywood movie - or even some student films. The result is something that is practically unwatchable by US standards, but they seem to enjoy it, and given how many folks are over there, who are we to say that means it’s bad? They’re making money, anyway.

Very true, North America and Western Europe aren’t the only people who get a say in what makes a good film. If this sort of thing sells well in the Indian Subcontinent it’s obviously good by some standard there. (Well, sort of, I mean we watch a lot of crap in the West too!) I’ve watched a few South Korean revenge movies on the recommendation of my brother, again they’re very different, and some of them will have even the most jaded westerner, the sort used to bad stuff happening in films in graphic detail,  in floods of tears, but I have to say I enjoyed them.
