Why buy more Disney when they are the same s**t all over again?

Hey, very cool.  I knew there was a reason I was boycotting Disney.  I guess the real question is, are these real?  I don’t happen to own these movies to even check.

I’ve noticed one thing about Disney.  The stories the movies are based on are so much better.  The old fairy tales are much darker and more interesting and the other stories are more colorful.

I also think Disney needs to be more daring.  There is a reson that Shrek has been so popular.

Cool. Can anyone name all the movies the scenes come from? I see the Jungle Book, Snow White, and Winnie the Pooh. But the others I don’t recognize. (I haven’t seen a lot of Disney movies.)

Well, it really does make sense for them to try to reuse parts from other movies.  These movies are all (as far as I can tell) from the days when they hand-drew every single frame, which of course takes a lot of time and effort.  This way they don’t have to take as much time making sure each frame in the sequence properly fits in with the one before and the one after, all they have to do is make some cosmetic changes.

Oh, and could that one with the guy in armour tripping be from the movie about King Arthur, the one sort of based on part of T.H. White’s book?

The Movies those are from are : Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, Snow white and the Seven Dwarves and The Sword in the Stone (the guy tripping is sir Kay, the kid getting licked is the one who grows up to be King Arthur)

Both tripping scenes appear to be the same character from the same movie although I may be mistaken.

Like Accipiter said it was not uncommon for animation companies to reuse footage or general scene ideas to save time and money.  Now that its all digital they have the ability to grind out movies at a much faster pace (and at a lesser quality I might add… there hasnt been a good Disney movie since Beauty and the Beast/ Lion King IMHO)

If youre going to say that Disney uses the same movies then you need to say that Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera, etc are guilty of the same crime.  A lot of their shorts contain a good deal of “stock” footage.

IE the character running ... place in front of appropriate background and you have a chase scene.

Trick being is to realize how much financial distress Disney’s animation studios are in.. What used to be their bread and butter is now a wilted bit of parsley that’s fallen off the plate.

Much of what they are releasing isn’t so much trying to produce great art, but instead trying to fil the paychecks for another year. Why be innovative and creative when you can release the same old stuff direct-to-video and make a few million *anyway*?

In any case, I agree that a lot of the disneyfied stories have been sanitized from their original roots, though some of the older ones remained fairly true. Who here remembers Old Yeller? What about Song of the South? That one’s a fun one.. Despite having theme characters and a ride derived from it, Disney refuses to admit they made it, since even when it was released they got some hate mail for it..

Could be worse; old Superman comics would re-use the *exact* same plotline every year or so, on the basis that their target audience was cycling rapidly enough they didn’t need to worry.

The Snow White duplication may be a bit of a canard. The seven dwarfs were trotted out once or twice during WW2 in Disney produced propaganda films. As these were made short handed and on very tight timescales whole scenes were just reshot and a new ending spliced on the end.

For example, Donald Duck’s New Spirit was the exact same cartoon as Donald’s Better Self apart from the message (pay your taxes to beat the axis v. don’t be a fool and go to school) and a few details that were changed to more closely link Donald’s ‘devilish’ side with the evils of Nazism.
