Okay. At first I was rather miffed that the fine writers in Hollywood were doing yet another reboot of a succesful, well-made film. If that were the case, not only wouldn’t I watch it, I would lose what little bit of liking I had for their product. (I rarely, if ever, go to a film as it is…) After all, “If it ain’t broke, DON’T FIX IT!!”
Then I went and watched one of the trailers for the film. (#2, found on IMDB, to be exact.) And other than a very few references to the original, and the name (of course), there is little resemblance to the first Conan film. Actually, I am a little ?surprised? that they didn’t just come up with a NEW barbarian’s name to name the film after. (And start a brand new line of merchandising along with it!) After all, using the ‘conan’ franchise name means they must pay royalties to the entity holding the marketing rights to that name. If they had started a new one (as they tried to do with “Kull”) the studio would be free to roll in ALL of the profits.
So, in my mind at least, it isn’t Conan. It is more like “Paznir- the Primordial” or some-such.
