They wear diapers and ride in strollers but, they’re not babies—they are “monkids.” NGC goes inside the controversy of adopting monkeys as surrogate babies. Many question whether this is animal cruelty or even a danger to the owners. Others are fiercely devoted to these primates they see as part of the family. See just how far these wild monkeys have come from their treetop habitat as we explore this growing phenomenon.

MONKEY PARENTS

We had to stop watching this it was so creepy.  Dogs have been bred for thousands of years to be companions to people, and even the wild wolf shows some companion traits, but these are kidnapped wild creatures.  They are taken away from their mothers at an unnaturally young age, caged for safety.  One monkey was diagnosed with diabetes and even though the vet told the woman the monkey would die if she did not change it’s diet, she continued to feed her “baby” junk food.

Aren’t there laws against this?

I had no idea this sort of thing was happening. Why the hell are people doing this? It just seems like such a selfish thing to do.

I believe that there are laws against this, but that they are on a local rather than a national level.  So if it isn’t legal where you live, you can move to the next town or the next state over and do it.

Of course, given that not only are monkeys wild and dangerous animals when they start to grow up, but also that there are countless infants of our own species who are in desperate need of a home, the whole thing is pretty stupid.

I’m wondering what happened afterwards with that lady who fed her monkey ordinary pasta after she was specifically told not to by the expert. The monkey was diagnosed with diabetes and wasn’t supposed to eat ordinary pasta.
