Vin Diesel Confirmed for Third Riddick
Source:Variety
February 12, 2010

Vin Diesel is confirmed to star in and produce a third installment installment in the “Chronicles of Riddick” franchise, reports Variety.

Universal Pictures will handle domestic distribution and Lionsgate is currently selling international rights.

David Twohy, who wrote and directed both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, will direct again from a screenplay he wrote.

According to the trade, the third film will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits.

Diesel is first expected to star in Universal’s Fast Five, the fifth installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.

Hmmm. Gotta Luv that Riddick! cheese

Oh, yeah. I really like the Riddick character. Pitch Black was much better than I thought it would be given the basic premise of the movie.  Chronicles wasn’t nearly as good, but, as the article basically, kind of, sort of said in a roundabout way, wasn’t as much character-driven as Pitch Black was.

I’m sure my buddy Mark and I will be there opening Friday. smile

I ended up watching Chronicles of Riddick on television last night.  Pitch Black wasn’t bad, and was sort of an Alien type of movie with less of the special effects and big “Wow!” moments and more focus on what the individuals were doing.  The sequel was a totally different movie in basically every respect, aside from keeping a few of the same characters.  If anything, it reminded me of all the campy space-opera books from the 1940’s, or the old Buck Rogers serials.  It wasn’t bad as one of those, but if you were expecting it to be like the first movie you would be horribly disappointed.  So while I have no plans to watch this third movie when it appears in the cinemas, I’ll be happy to watch it on television or borrowed from the library as yet another silly space-opera.
