I’ve Installed A New Forum
in San Diego
Aug 02, 2005
I'VE INSTALLED A NEW FORUM. Check it out here. And feel free to start posting there (instead of here).
The new forum has a few disadvantages. For instance, non-members can't post any topics or comments in it. So it's a members-only forum. This wasn't by my design. It's just how the software is designed, and I can't figure out any workaround.
Also, current post tallies won't migrate over to the new forum. Even if you've posted 3000 messages in this forum, the new forum won't think you've posted any messages. You'll be starting back at 0. I can't figure out any way to change this.
Plus, I can't move any threads from this forum into the new forum. So it's a completely fresh start.
But you won't need to register again. If you signed up as a member in this forum, you're already a member of the new forum. (but avatars won't migrate over... you'll need to upload your avatar again).
However, here are the advantages of the new forum:
1) it puts much less of a strain on the server.
2) it has a 'fast reply' option, which should be popular.
3) it allows members to create polls.
4) it allows members to upload pictures, avatars, etc.
5) it allows me to create lots of different forums focused on different categories (like hoaxes, jokes, off-topic chit chat, etc.)
6) it has spellcheck.
And there's more stuff I can't think of.
Basically, it's a real forum, unlike this forum which is actually blogging software that I reconfigured to act as a forum.
So unless people have major problems with the new forum, in a few days I'll stop letting people create new threads in this forum. However, I'll keep all existing threads in this forum open.
I think I've ironed most of the bugs out of the new forum, so it should be ready for everyone to use (fingers crossed). If not, then we'll find that out.

In order to post comments you have to register as a member of the site. We were forced to restrict commenting because spammers were flooding the comment form with spam and crashing the server.
