Udo of Aachen, fictional monk (1200-1270 CE). Udo is the creation of British technical writer Ray Girvan, who invented him for an April Fool's article in 1999.
Mystic and poet whose work ostensibly was set to music by Carl Orff with the haunting O Fortuna in Carmina Burana - actually the work of itinerant goliards, found in the German Benedictine monastery of Beuron (Latin, Burana).
The apocryphal Udo was also an illustrator and theologian, supposedly he discovered the Mandelbrot set, some 700 years before Benoit Mandelbrot (Benoit is French for Benedict).
"Re-discovered" when the also-fictional Bob Schipke, a Harvard mathematician, saw a picture of the Mandelbrot set in an illumination for a 13th century carol.

I'm sorry to have to say it, but here goes - I find your avatar just a tad creepy. I keep expecting his mouth to open exposing fangs dripping with blood as he leaps for my throat.
Of course, I went to a wedding this weekend so I'm not fully recovered from the emotional stress yet. |

I have some time off from anything today. Kiddo is being looked after, I've (for now) finished the gardening. (about 100 flowers later and 3 bushes) etc.
So it is kind of a kick back and relax day.
Mind you I actually have been doing other things besides this... I just happen to be working in the same room as my computer. |

Interesting: what started as a post about a 13th Century monk turned into a group flirting session. Sigmund Freud would have a fun time here with us! I'm sure there's a great moral lesson to be learned from all this, but I think I'd personally prefer to ignore whatever it may be and just go on with my rascally ways. |
