September 27, 2000 | Hi there, One hoax you should mention is the BBC Ghostwatch program, broadcast on Halloween 1993 (I think). It was supposed to be a drama about a live program watching a haunted house, it was given credibility by its presenters Craig Charles, Sarah Green and Michael Parkinson. Problem was that the BBC did not make a big issue of it being a drama and when stange and sinister happenings occoured a lot of people took it very serious, there were reoprts of pregant women being so terrified they went in to labour. Worth having on you site, maybe? |

July 23, 2000 | Please include the bird-dinosaur link hoax which was found out recently. We visited this specimen at Drumheller's Tyrell Museum of Paleontology (Canada) in August of 1999, which had a room dedicated to the great find from China. We were quite amused to hear of the hoax later and this year the museum has successfully managed to erase all traces of the exhibit ever having been here. |
July 13, 2000 | One of my favorite April Fool's jokes was done a couple years ago (I don't know the exact date, but it was within the last 4-5 years). Taco Bell took out a full-page ad in the Washington Post indicating that they were purchasing the Liberty Bell and would incorporate it into their new logo which would be a bell with a crack. The Post (and other newspapers that ran the ad) were flooded with calls and letters by outraged people who didn't get the joke. Afterwards Taco Bell donated money toward the Liberty Bell's preservation. |
