Munchkin, the Monster Cat: Comments
(most recent posts first)

I can believe that this picture is real. Charlie, my Maine Coon who died 4 years ago was 35 lbs. without being fat. He was 36" tall when he stood on his hind legs. If he had been overweight as well, he would have rivaled Munchkin for size. You also have to look at the size of the very thin child who is holding this cat. Held by an adult Munchkin would not look quite as large as he does here.

The newspaper, and the person who sent the photo in, are now admitting it's a hoax. A pretty good one too!

I want to say it is real just because the cat's eyes glow like when the camera flashes in the retina. I know there are some awfully big fat cats out there, but am skeptical since there is so much fakery on the web. It looks to be some sort or optical illusion to make the cat look even fatter since the legs of the person are very huge compared to their upper torso . But I still think the cat is a chub-ette.

Those of you who think it's real, what's your best guess for how much the cat weighs? Fifty pounds?

I've seen other pictures of Munchkin on the web. So I pretty sure he's real. Check out pictures of our cat "Casper". She has no face. Victim of a tragic accident as a kitten.

:Yeah, I've seen this one before -- amazing! I can't see any of the telltale marks that indicate it's not real -- positioning, shadows, clarity, edging, it all looks pretty consistent....I'm sure that cat eats more than mine!

While Munchkin's size seems a bit on the outrageous side, I took a pretty good look at the picture you have posted. From the way the cat's hair lies around the holder's hands, and other details awfully difficult to duplicate through a processor like Photoshop, I'd say the picture is real.
