another giveaway is the name "Flashman". Sir Paget Harry Flashman, V.C., is the literary creation of British novelist George MacDonald Fraser. Fraser "adopted" a minor character from the novel _Tom Brown's School Days_ and wrote a series of historical novels making his anti-heroic Flashman an active (and usually unwilling) participant in nearly every British military adventure/disaster from the First Afghan War, Indian mutiny, Crimean War through the Boxer Rebellion (with side trips to the Little Big Horn and the American Civil War). Fraser write first rate, entertaining historical fiction. The hoaxer is merely pathetic. I didn't read the entire LiveJournal entries, but they seem to have missed the literary reference.
